Selfless Acts of Heroism & Sacrifice
On October 9, 2017, a wind driven firestorm enveloped dozens of communities in Sonoma and Napa counties, California. Nearly 8,500 structures were destroyed and 43 lives were lost. Thousands of firefighters were called, risking their lives working to protect their communities. During the first days of the fires, these brave heroes remained on the firelines, fighting to save their neighbors and community without a chance to comfort their own families or return home to assess the damage.
As these firefighters returned from the front lines for much needed rest, many learned that their own homes were lost. We now know that some of these firefighters lost family members, loved ones, and cherished pets in addition to losing all of their belongings. More than 40 firefighters lost their homes.
Eastside Firefighters Benevolent Fund is raising funds to assist the many firefighters and their families who have lost so much. Funds raised will benefit firefighter families affected from Santa Rosa, Marin County, Cal Fire Firefighters, Oakland, San Francisco, Petaluma, Berkeley Firefighters, and several other smaller agencies.
